Athletics and Education Resume

Richie moved to Marietta, GA upon graduation in 1988 and became Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach at Mount Paran Christian School. He provided leadership and advancement to a new program that was soon recognized as a premiere private school for athletics in the State.

In 1999, Richie accepted the position as Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach at Lakeview Academy in Gainesville, GA. Under Hughes’ direction, Lakeview quickly progressed throughout the athletic program building a new gymnasium, new tennis courts and a new baseball field. Additionally, Lakeview experienced a tremendous increase in the level of competitiveness. The Lions captured their first State Championship in any sport in 2004, winning the GHSA class A BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP. Additionally, the Lions made their first trip to the STATE basketball playoffs in the school’s 30 year history.

NBA

Hughes also spent time as an advanced scout for the Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic. His duties included scouting future opponents, video- tape analysis and helping prepare game plans for Coach Alvin Gentry (Pistons) and Coach Doc Rivers (Magic). Hughes has continued to maintain his ties to Coaches and Scouts in the NBA. In 2009, Richie had his first published work in “Chicken Soup for the Soul- Inside Basketball.” Author and Orlando Magic Sr. Vice President Pat Williams heard Richie’s story of a game he worked for the Magic at Madison Square Garden and the story was selected for the book.

Richie Hughes Instructional Camps, Inc

In 1990 Richie founded Richie Hughes Instructional Camps, Inc. RHIC organizes, promotes and directs sports camps for young people nationwide. Camps that are currently or have been directed by RHIC include: John Smoltz, Shaquille O’Neal, Dominique Wilkins, Terrance Mathis, Takeo Spikes, Kendrell Bell, Eric Zeier, Javy Lopez, Atlanta Silverbacks Soccer and many others. Thousands of young people have attended camps produced by RHIC.

Founded on principles of character development, fundamental instruction, improvement and enjoyment of the sport, RHIC’s mission is "improvement of the young person through sports for a variety of aspects in life." "Life lessons can be taught through sports and it is our goal to impact the lives of our campers in a way that will directly influence their future decisions and actions."

Ministry

In 2004, Richie accepted the position of Executive Pastor of Free Chapel located in Gainesville, GA and Orange Co., CA. Hughes duties include oversight of the church in both locations and Jentezen Franklin Media Ministries. Free Chapel currently is among the top 30 largest churches in America averaging over 11,000 in attendance each week.

Hughes states, “It is an honor and privilege to serve the ministry of Free Chapel and my Pastor/ Friend Jentezen Franklin. Each week through the Church campuses and the broadcast (Kingdom Connection) we are blessed to see people come to Christ and be encouraged in their faith.”

Literary Agent

Richie has been excited recently with his work with authors in aiding them in getting their word out. As the literary agent for noted authors such as Jentezen Franklin, Perry Stone, Brian Zahnd and others, Hughes negotiates contracts, coordinates marketing and promotion efforts and proposes new works and titles to multiple publishers. In 2008, Richie had the opportunity to work with a New York Times Bestseller. (Jentezen Franklin “Fasting”)

Richie Hughes currently resides in suburban Atlanta with his wife of 14 years and their two daughters. His hobbies include Golf, Basketball, Movies with his wife and anything activities his daughters are involved in.
